Click on the Virtual Open House for More Pictures and Info Adorable, affordable riverside cottage in historic central Tappan. Enjoy living again in this charming home with multiple original features yet every modern convenience: hardwood wide plank floors throughout, shuttered windows, multiple built-ins, two full bathrooms and a large master suite with huge walk in closet. Dine at Americas oldest pub or jump on the NYC bus and be in 42nd st in less than an hour! Moments to NJ border and Northvale shopping center. Tappan, New York is one of Rockland Countys oldest, most history-filled towns. Technically a hamlet in the town of Orangetown, it was the site of the countys first court house, erected in 1691. Tappan figured prominently in the American Revolution, as a center for much of the revolt and home to many famous and infamous characters. George Washington made Tappan his headquarters four times during the war. It was in Tappan that Major John Andre was convicted and hanged for his part in attempting to take West Point for the British with the help of turncoat Benedict Arnold. In 1774, two years prior to the Declaration on Independence, the Orangetown Resolutions were written and adopted in the Tappan home and inn of loyalist Yost Mabie. The resolutions labeled Britains newly increased taxes and the closing of Boston Harbor as andquot;Unacceptable Acts.andquot; Yosts inn still stands in Tappan as a restaurant named, appropriately, The 76 House. Many of the homes from that time still stand, a tribute to the solid construction of the stone-built Dutch Colonials in the area. It also has many structures which are on the National Registry of Historic Places, including the Reformed Church of Tappan, where Major Andre was tried in 1780, and an entire district within the town containing over a dozen designated structures. Tappan is conveniently located within easy driving distance to New York City, via either the Palisades Interstate Parkway or the New York State Thruway. Depending on traffic, the trip to the George Washington Bridge can take as little as 20 minutes. Commuters can access rail transportation at the nearby Pearl River station, or take local bus services. As Tappan is on the New Jersey border, it is also convenient to Bergen County and northern New Jersey. Tappan residents have access to a wealth of sports and outdoor facilities. Orangetown operates numerous tennis and softball parks, offers golf at the 27-hole Blue Hill golf course and the Broadacres 9-hole course. Seven other public courses are within five miles of Tappan. There are also four private and semi-private country clubs featuring 18 hole courses in Rockland County. Residents can enjoy summertime swimming at Lake Welch, and hike the trails of Harriman State Park, just a few minutes drive north. Around Tappan itself are miles of hiking and cycling trails that wind through Rocklands forested parks. Dining in and around Tappan is delicious and diverse. Besides the 76 House, there are five other Zagat-rated restaurants in Tappan, several national chains (Applebees, Panera, etc.) nearby, plus many other independently operated gourmet restaurants to discover. Menu choices include Italian, American, Korean, Japanese, Thai, French, Irish, Spanish, Mexican and seafood cuisines. And of course, the wonder and immensely diverse dining of New York City is always just down the road. Shopping in the Tappan area is also plentiful and varied. Tappan is close to a shopping center, several small malls, and a large variety of businesses in neighboring Northvale, NJ. In the area is a large Shoprite grocery, several other specialty grocery stores, two pharmacies, several gas stations, and the many other kinds of commercial outlets which make life easier when theyre nearby. A few minutes away is the Palisades Center Mall, one of the largest in the U.S., anchored by Lord and Taylor, Macys, Best Buy, Home Depot, Target and JC Penney. Full of history, with lots to see and do, Tappan is a fascinating and convenient place to be. It offers thesimplicity of living andquot;just upstate, andquot; but with easy access to the greatest city in the world almost next door. Complete info: http://825spirit.CanBYours.com - New. You've visited every new development in Orange County. You've signed up on the interest lists. But... You can't believe how much you have to spend, and then you've got to landscape and buy upgrades... even paint. Then you have to spend a couple thousand extra every year to pay for the Mello-Roos property taxes and bond issues. Not to mention hundreds every month for HOA dues. Ugh. And that's not to mention how far you have to travel from a freeway. Or the beach. Ugh. But now you've discovered this home on Spirit. It seems too good to be true. Check out the location. You could walk to the world-class restaurants, theaters and elite shops of South Coast Plaza, Crystal Court, Metro Pointe and South Coast Village. You can hop right on the 405, 73 or 55 freeways and jet off to anywhere. Speaking of jets, John Wayne airport is just 3 miles away. And the golden sand of Newport is about 6 miles, close enough to touch LifeStyle with a gentle ocean breeze. The pictures look gorgeous. You've got to take a look in person. As you approach the gated enclave of 79 homes built in 1997, you are amazed at just how secluded it feels despite being right there next to practically everything. The gate quietly closes behind your car and you can practically feel the stresses of your day disappear. Each home is prettier and more perfectly groomed than the last. And then there it is. 825 Spirit. What lovely front landscaping - colorful flowers and cascading date palms. And the two-tone stucco, ledgestone accents, and architectural complexity are a welcome departure from every other hum-drum home you've been seeing in your price range. You are surprised by the substantial porchlight fixtures and the grandness of the portico, and the towering front door adds to the dignified tone. Once inside, your first thought is.. the online pictures didn't do it justice. The polished travertine floors are elegant and yet not slippery. Plantation-shuttered windows, dramatic floor, door and crown mouldings outline the soaring ceilings and designer-painted walls. Open one raised-panel door and you're in the perfectly appointed powder room with furniture quality cabinetry, brushed pewter fixtures and rich granite counter. Open the other and .. even the coat closet is unusually spacious and well laid out. The dining room somehow portrays both formality and comfort. And its French doors beckon you look beyond to the lush beautiful side yard showcasing the contemporary styled pool with refreshing water falls. And there is even more yard in the back including an outdoor kitchen with sink, refrigerator, BBQ, granite bar seating and prep area and stainless cabinets, sheltered by a retractable awning. You wonder... have you ever seen a newer home with enough yard to include a pool that doesn't feel like the yard is nothing but pool? Here on Spirit, the sprawling yard includes generous entertaining areas, ledgestone planters and an abundance of green, plus secluded areas for shed storage and a private utility area on the east side with a garage access door and.. HEY is that a tankless water heater? Cool. Next, back inside, you experience the kitchen and family room area. All you can think is WOW. Thermador refrigerator, American Range oven/range with 6 bi-level burners that looks as if it has never been used and a pot filler faucet emerging from the natural stone subway tiled backsplash. The floorplan has been customized from the original to feature a butler's pantry alongside the direct garage access door, wrapping around to a laundry room with a wall of gorgeous raw sienna cabinetry. Above the huge granite island is a designer wrought iron lighting fixture that banishes any question of the depth of the quality of the structure and decor of this incredible property. You can already picture your family's everyday life here relaxing in the family room, entertaining your friends in this floorplan that flows so well, having your breakfast at the center island bar, spending your weekend relaxing by your pool. Upstairs, the dream continues. The curve of the 2-toned railing and craftsman-style banister detail at the stair landing are yet another aspect that set this home apart. The second floor enchants with interesting variation of levels. Two steps up to the loft you pause to enjoy the catwalk that gazes on the entryway from above. The loft features beautiful built in desk furniture and collector's cabinets - one look through the plantation shutters and the view of the pool might be just what you need to power through your tasks to hurry to your restful reward. The gentle freshness of the adjacent 4th bedroom's wall color draws in the abundant bursts of green from the trees just outside, multiplied by the mirrored wardrobe. Every room has a ceiling fan to gently stir the centrally cooled air to spa like perfection. The hall bathroom is framed by two more bedrooms and boasts granite accent tiles in the travertine lined tub/shower walls and the luxury of a door separating the vanity and bathing chamber. Turn the corner and back up 2 steps to your personal space the master bedroom suite. Two walkin closets, separate tub, shower and toilet room, and dual vanity - you can see complete bathroom harmony in your future. Your final thought did you see even one speck of dust? You retrace each step with the express purpose of finding any sign of wear, soil or spot. Nothing. It's absolute perfection.

THINGS TO DO IN SACRAMENTO STATE CAPITOL Sacramento, California Home to the California State Capitol, Sacramento is a vibrant city with an incredible selection of museums, restaurants, great public transportation, a beautiful riverfront, history galore, entertainment and thousands of trees! Sacramento now outranks Paris, France for the most trees per capita of any major city in the world. In the spring you can see the blossoming camellia trees of brilliant pink, white or red that surround the Capitol building in an amazing display of color. Take a FREE tour of the California State Capitol Museum, located at Capitol Building 10th and L Streets. Open daily except major holidays. STANFORD MANSION The Victorian era Leland Stanford Mansion, after a 14 year, $22 million restoration and rehabilitation, is now open to the public. The Mansion serves as the State’s official address for diplomatic and business receptions as well as offering public tours as a California State Historic Park. Built between 1856 and 1872, the four story, 19,000 square foot Mansion has special historical and architectural significance. It served as the office of three governors during California’s early years: Leland Stanford, Fredrick Low and Henry Haight. It was also the site of California’s first presidential visit by Rutherford B. Hayes and General Sherman in 1880. The Mansion was acquired by California State Parks in 1978. CROCKER ART MUSEUM The long awaited and highly anticipated opening of the Crocker Art Museum 125,000 sq. ft. expansion took place on 10/10/10. The 125 year old world class museum will feature a new contemporary design, tripling the amount of space. The Crocker Museum will now be able to display more of its 14,000 permanent works of art, many of which have never been on public view. Founded in the 1870s, Crocker Art Museum is known as the first art museum in the West. The historical building with hand carved doors, ornate walls and parquet floors, creates a gorgeous backdrop as impressive as the art. The art includes the Gold Rush, Victorian and European masters and contemporary works. The museum hosts art talks, classical concerts, jazz concerts, and tours (afternoons and weekends). A gift shop is also available. GOVERNOR'S HISTORIC MANSION As a historic house museum, the Mansion is unusual because it is not a replica or a restoration. It stands much as it did when vacated by the Reagans in 1967. Visitors walk through the accumulated history of the house seeing the furnishings and personal items left by each first family, including the Pardees' 1902 Steinway Piano, the purple velvet sofa and chairs purchased by Minnie Johnson in 1911, hand tied Persian carpets acquired by Nina Warren, and an early 1950s console TV added by the Knights. Today's guests see marble fireplaces from Italy, gold framed mirrors from France, and exquisitely handcrafted hinges and doorknobs, all of which are reminders of the Gallatins and the Victorian era. Outside some of the Mansion's abundant vegetation includes flowers, shrubs, and trees dating back to 1877. But when visitors look behind the grape stake fence and see Governor Brown's swimming pool built in 1959, they are reminded that the Governor's Mansion State Historic Park is really a walk through time. CALIFORNIA STATE MUSEUM The California Museum opened in 1998 and was initially designed to showcase the materials of the State Archives. Over the last ten years, the vision and mission have grown to make the Museum a premier destination place with a goal of educating and inspiring people about the richness that is California history. SUTTER'S FORT In 1839 a Swiss immigrant named John Sutter received a land grant in the Sacramento Valley from the Mexican government. He used the land to create a flourishing agricultural empire and named it New Helvetia (New Switzerland.) This empire established Sacramento's earliest settlement and the first non Indian settlement in California's Central Valley. In 1847 Sutter sent aid to the Donner Party, a group of immigrants trapped in a winter storm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Word spread and Sutter became known for his hospitality and for providing temporary refuge to travelers. This reputation made New Helvetia the destination for early immigrants to California. CAVIAR The white sturgeon produces caviar comparable in quality to Beluga, Sevruga and Osetra caviar from the Caspian Sea, served in dewy piles in Russia, along with blini and ice cold vodka. Traditionally, the Caspian Sea produced 99 percent of the world’s caviar, but pollution, political upheaval and poaching decimated the sturgeon’s numbers there, giving Sacramento more than a toehold in the world market. “Sacramento County is actually the caviar capital of the world,” said Dr. David Stephen, who manages one of Tsar Nicoulai’s Caviar sturgeon farms. GINGER ELIZABETH CHOCOLATES Dessert Professional named this Sacramento Chocolatier as one of the 10 best chocolatiers in the United States! It's not cheap tasting chocolate, but divine REAL chocolates you would want to bring home with you! CAFE ROLLE FRENCH CAFE Enjoy pates, smoked fish, sandwiches, salads, quiche, tarts, cakes, crème brulee, mousse chocolat and other unique deli items.
